I am not the kind of user who downloads and stores music on the computer. In fact, I rarely download music from the Internet. More often than not I tune into online radio stations or visit my favourite YouTube to watch videos and movies.
I know that a plethora of software available to download music from the web. But most of these software are either expensive or don’t offer options to download music from multiple services.
Recently, I came across a good software to download music while searching for applications to watch TV from desktop. It’s a free software that lets you search the web for music and then lets you download with a click. What makes this freeware a special one is its minimalistic user interface and the powerful search.
The freeware we are talking about is Songr. Songr lets you download music from a total of 16 music search engines and streaming services. That is, when you enter a keyword in Songr’s search box and press the search button, it searches for the music using Audiodump.com, BeeMP3.com, DilanDau.com, 4shared.com, GoEar.com, MP3Realm.org, Mpeg-Search.com, ProstoPleer.com, SocBay.com, Soso.com, Tagoo.ru, TinySong, Wrzuta.pl, and YouTube.com search engines.

The search result shows music file name, duration, bitrate, size, quality score, speed, reliability and search engine name. Hovering the mouse cursor over a search result displays file title, artist, and host information. To download a file, right-click on a search result and select download option. Download as MP3 option is also available when the music file is in a different format. This feature comes in handy when you want to download a audio files in MP3 format.
The best thing about this tool is that it allows you listen to a music file without downloading it. Simply right-click on a search result and click Listen to start streaming the music file in your default media player.
The Preview option enables you listen to the music before actually downloading it. This option is available only for two or three search engines, though.
Another fantastic feature is that you can use Songr to search and buy music from Amazon, eMusic, and Rhapsody. To use this feature, search for a album first by entering the appropriate keyword in the search box and then pressing search button. Once you the search result, click Buy music and then select the store from where you would like to buy the album.
Overall, a fantastic tool for music lovers. Supports both x86 and x64 versions of Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and the latest Windows 8 operating systems. A portable version of Songr is also available at the download page.
